More The Cowboys just can’t win again, can they? Just like they couldn’t win on a cold Monday night in Sydney’s west a couple of years ago in the face of a blue-and-gold flood. A game tacked onto the end of those never-ending mid-season rounds made for television and not turnstiles. One team turns up, the other doesn’t. The Eels led by 24 points into the second half. Cowboys can’t possibly win. North Queensland coach Paul Green says there is no expectation on his team going into Saturday’s semi-final against the Eels. Try after try after try. Gavin Cooper, the confessed “Steven Bradbury of captains” with seemingly half the modern-day North Queensland roster in rehab, scores a hat-trick within six minutes. Third biggest comeback in NRL history at the time.

See More As a child of the Internet and confirmed weirdo, imagine my relief when they finally took that last bastion of in-person awkwardness — dating — to my laptop instead. I’ve been using one of the major dating sites, OkCupid, on and off for about five years now. While it has its perks, being a woman on a dating site means immersing yourself in a disgusting cesspool of exposed nerves, unfiltered testosterone, and daily propositions to engage in sex acts so horrifying, I hadn’t even heard of them before, and I’m from the Internet.
I got the feeling that a lot of men on that site would message literally any woman who had a profile, but the optimist in me wanted to believe that there was a limit. Maybe there was a woman so awful, so toxic, so irredeemably unlikeable that no one would message her, or if they did, at least they would realize they never, ever wanted to meet her. So I made the OkCupid profile of the Worst Woman on Earth, hoping to prove that there exists an online dating profile so loathsome that no man would message it.
Advertisement The Profile In making this profile, I made sure my creation touched on every major facet of being truly horrible: I maintain that there is not a human on this planet who would read this profile and think, “Yes, I’d like to spend any amount of the fleeting time I’m given on my journey around the sun getting to know this person. Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair:

But labels that promote a host of foods as ‘light’ or lower fat are making empty claims, a consumer watchdog has found. Everyday products from fruit loaf to crisps, butter alternatives to cheese, carry misleading messages about their fat content. An investigation by the Consumers’ Association found some foods branded as ‘light’ have up to seven times more fat than those described as ‘low fat’. The association said the problem arises because claims such as ‘light’ and ‘lite’ do not have an official meaning in law.
Consequently a wide range of manufacturers choose to use the descriptions, despite concerns that they are misleading. For example, Philadelphia Light cream cheese may suggest a low fat content, but it is actually 16 per cent fat. Even Philadelphia Extra Light contains 5 per cent fat. Neither of these products could officially describe themselves as ‘low fat’, because the Government’s Food Standards Agency insists that food should be less than 3 per cent fat to qualify.

April 14, at 9: After a cosmetic procedure about 10 years ago, to remove wrinkles my doctor recommended that I wear a sunhat to prevent brown spots from developing on my face. A woman is absolutely allowed to wear a small-brimmed hat at a dinner function or at a restaurant. In general, a woman would not wear a large brimmed hat after sundown because she would not need to protect her face from the sun. Women do NOT need to remove feminine-style hats for any national anthem.
However, when I was in Australia, a tour docent for their Aussie war memorial shrine wrongly asked me to take off my hat during a taped recording of their national anthem. So, even though I looked awful with my messed up hair, I did take my hat off. Should I argue with him about propriety at a war memorial? As for the rest of this article, it rocks! Hat-Dating Guides Hatting Notes There is a rule of thumb regarding dating soft felt hats what we now call fedoras at just a glance, which postulates that hats with taller crown plus narrower brims are from the s to mid s or so, whereas hat crowns slightly lowered but brims grew wider from roughly the late s through the s into the early s.
From the mid s onward to the present day, crowns typically tend to be lower and brims are very narrow. While there is some validity to this rule of thumb due to the changing nature of fashion over the decades, hats of all these styles can be found in all periods, so internal clues to dating hats are needed to make more accurate estimations of age. Cavanagh Hats in particular are notorious for hiding their age regarding their style.
Cavanagh had a clientele that was typically older and more conservative, fashion-wise, than the other brands. As such, they often stuck to a style for decades, and thus one could find a Cavanagh hat from that looks nearly the same, externally, as one from Cavanagh was not so much interested in setting styles as they were in maintaining them. Still, Cavanagh did produce some modern styles, especially once the changes in the mid s came around.
As an example, here are two Cavanaghs separated in manufacturing time by thirty years: Earlier ones are rarities, though through diligence one can still find them. Before we enter the fray on dating Cavanagh hats, I’d like to offer up a caveat. This list is not meant to be a comprehensive list of clues to dating hats, but instead is meant to serve up the most common elements that can help one attain a more accurate gauge of a hat’s vintage.

Colorless is preferred over the term “clear” or “white” glass since the former term refers more accurately to the transparency of the glass not its color, i. Colorless glass was a goal of glass manufacturers for centuries and was difficult to produce because it required the use of virtually impurity-free materials. Venetian glass makers produced their crystallo as early as the 15th century and glass makers in 18th century England made what was known as “flint” glass from virtually pure quartz rock calcined flint which was simply called “flint” Hunter Improved chemistry and glass making methods of the late 19th and early 20th century allowed for process efficiencies that made colorless glass easier and much cheaper to produce with the use of various additives in the glass mixture.

Neil Fisher 2 years ago While the rapid growth of craft beer has created a dynamic and constantly evolving marketplace with beers rotating faster than ever on store shelves, in some retail shops, beers still have a tendency to sit on shelves past their prime. To help ensure a consistent experience for all consumers within their distribution footprint, some breweries use date codes. But, because there are no standards or requirements for indicating beer age, each brewery employs its own method for dating its beers.
Finding the Date Code One of the most difficult tasks in checking beer freshness is locating the date code. First, check the label. Breweries such as Sierra Nevada, Great Divide, and Odell clearly print the date code on a specific section of the label, which is often the same for all product lines. For bottles, date codes are often printed on the neck or shoulder the section just above the label.
These codes are easiest to identify when they are printed in yellow or white ink on the bottle, but black or dark ink is not uncommon, so hold the bottle up to a light source to help you find the code. Some breweries elect to print their date codes on the four-pack or six-pack carriers or on the case carton. You can increase your odds by purchasing from stores that you know make an effort to stock fresh beer and stores that go through product reasonably fast.
Reading the Date Code Often, deciphering the date code can prove more difficult than locating it.

This is an interesting walk through my personal collection of antique fedoras. Please enjoy the journey. Clear plastic crown liners are a sure fire way of at least determining in what era the hat might have been made—or at least when it could not have been made. This clear plastic liner was all the rage for hat makers for at least a decade but started to go out of fashion by the s.

Don’t worry — your e-mail address is totally secure. I promise to use it only to send you Clock Collecting Tips. There are so many styles and types of clocks, made by so many clock makers and from so many countries, that I was totally lost. Over many years, I have learned a lot. I have concentrated on the American clock companies for my collection, so there is much for me to learn about clocks from outside the US. The question I get most from the comment form on this web site is: Some people will see a clock at an antique store that would look good in a certain room of their house, and end up with it that way.
However you might end up with your special clock, you probably would like to identify, date and generally learn more about it. This clock forum page may be able to help. You can post your clock here for other visitors to see.
